Halifax Dyke & Trans March
Friday July 27, 2012Rally at 6:00pm in front of Spring Garden Library (5381 Spring Garden Rd.)with speakers and performers
March at 6:30pm to the Commons by the Oval (at the corner of North Park & Cogswell St.)
An accessible bus will be part of the march
This is a march by and for queer women and trans people* that seeks to not only celebrate our identities, but to challenge continued oppressions, particularly gendered oppression**, experienced within our diverse communities. The march is open to our allies of all identities and
orientations.
We are an alternative to the Pride Parade. We offer a political space for people within queer communities who are marginalized by corporate Pride and by the commercialization of “gay identity.” We seek to create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space, therefore we choose to operate independently of the police.
* “Queer women and trans people” can include dyke, lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, questioning, pansexual, omnisexual, asexual, transsexual, transgender, bigender, genderqueer, and Two Spirit people
** “Gendered oppression” refers to patriarchal social constructs and the gender binary

Just want to show my support. I doubt that I’ll make it to Pride this year, but I always look forward to seeing pictures from it.

thanks, Ben. I expect we’ll be getting photos from Biff as we did last year.
