Posted on February 8, 2011 by

Member of Parliament Bill Siksay (NDP), of Burnaby-Douglas, BC, led the debate in the House of Commons for its Third Reading on 7 February, 2011. He spoke on the need for a law that specifically defines “gender identity” and “gender expression” as a protected class for both human rights law and criminal law prohibiting hate crimes. You can read his speech and the ensuing debate in the House of Commons. Bill C-389 will be voted on for a third time in the House of Commons tomorrow, Wednesday 9 February, 2011 at approximately 6 PM Eastern. Please call or email your MPs who represent you and demand that they vote for Bill C-389. Urge your MPs to continue Canada’s proud history of human rights by extending those protections to some of the most vulnerable in our communities: transgender, transsexual and all gender variant persons.
