InQueery: First Pride?

Posted on November 2, 2010 by

Fredericton Pride 2010 was designated by the media as Fredericton’s “First Pride.” It is a question of some historical significance as to whether we can call Fredericton Pride 2010 the first Pride celebration in the City. The Mayor’s Proclamation of Pride Week and the raising of the Pride flag happened annually for many years. In years past, there have been Pride celebrations which took place at various locations, including River’s Edge Campground, the Delta Hotel, and boom! nightclub. However, none of these previous celebrations included a Pride Parade, nor an outdoor public Pride Festival located in the City. We want to acknowledge all the years of hard work by volunteers in years past that laid the foundation for the extraordinary Pride Celebration and First Pride Parade that occurred in Fredericton in 2010.
